Regardless of what some people might
like to think, DV and D8 are identical
in everyway aside from the fact there
    recording media differs.
DV records to miniDV tapes, were D8 records
DV informarion to a High8 tape.
Quality wise they are interchanable from
    what I've seen.

Also, another myth to be dispelled is
    that expensive "pro-sumor" cams
    deliver significantly better image quality.
Apart from the fact high-end cams perform
better in lowlight and generally have
slightly better colour saturation, and maybe
a few extra lines of resolution(which on
the average TV makes bugger all difference
after a point, because it's restricted to a
res of about 720x576) I've observed little
difference in quality, between the likes of
    a Sony VX1000 and a DV-IN enabled DCR-TRV8000
that I picked up for 350quid.
At the end of the day it's down to how much
light you can throw on something, which will
give you a superior image- as opposed to
buying a super bastard XYZ sextuple CCD
monsta. This holds true up to the point
were you get in to the real pro cams, were
for the poltry sum of around 20'000quid
the increase in image quality is as drastic
as it gets short of shooting on 35mm.
